The 70mm profile is typically used where you need to bring vehicles down to near-walking pace, often described as a ‘5mph ramp’. These are particularly effective in multi-storey car parks, tight internal roadways, or areas with heavy pedestrian traffic where safety is paramount. While the effect on speed varies with driver behaviour, the physical presence of a 70mm ramp makes it difficult to ignore.
Some sites choose to install 70mm ramps only at the most sensitive points, while using 50mm or 30mm ramps along approach roads. This layered approach helps maintain traffic flow where possible, while enforcing crawl speeds where the risk to people is highest.
